Strategies for Youth is a national policy and training organization, dedicated to improving police/youth interactions by equipping officers with 21st century approaches to policing teens and teaching teens how to navigate interactions with their peers and law enforcement.
SFY’s Board members come from across the U.S. Board members set policy, provide strategic direction, develop policy, and actively contribute and secure resources for the successful operation of the organization.
The Board must approve the annual budget and significant changes in that budget and review and approve financial statements at regular meetings. Board members must serve as “ambassadors” for SFY to promote SFY to the public.
Board members are asked to identify suitable candidates for appointment to the Board. In addition, Board members are to make a contribution within their means and identify potential support for the agency to ensure that financial resources are available to accomplish the organization’s mission and goals.
Board members are expected to attend quarterly meetings: 3 are conference calls due to Board members coming from all over the country, and 1 meeting is in person.
Energy, enthusiasm and effort are three personal characteristics the Board seeks in its members. SFY seeks candidates from across the nation who are committed to the organization’s mission and goals, have experience on nonprofit Boards and familiarity with fundraising for nonprofit organizations. Board members are
expected to participate in fund raising activities by seeking funds and implementing fundraising strategies through personal influence with others (individuals, corporations and foundations).
Finally, SFY seeks Board members with a “can-do” attitude who would bring a sense of humor and optimism to the Board’s deliberations.
