Mission statement:
Generations Incorporated works toward the day when all children are proficient in literacy when they enter the fourth grade. Currently, in Boston and across America, 65% of 4th grade students are not proficient. And this problem creates a downward spiral which frequently results in dropping out of school, low wages, and other serious social problems.
We are unique in that we engage hundreds of older adults to serve as literacy volunteers for children in kindergarten through third grade. This population is one of the fastest growing resources in the nation and has the time and talent for meaningful service to children.
We are a proud affiliate of AARP Experience Corps, a national program that helps young students learn to read by engaging older adults to help.
