Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance, Legal, and Administration will play a critical role in ensuring strong financial and operational management of the Foundation. The DFLA will manage the Controller, the Systems Administrator, and up to two Receptionists. The ideal candidate has strong nonprofit accounting and finance experience, has managed and negotiated business contracts, is comfortable with technology and systems improvement, and is passionate about improving our world. This role is ideal for someone with 5-10 years of relevant managerial experience in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure strong financial management and accurate accounting books: Review monthly accounting closes; collate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; strengthen financial controls. With the Controller, ensure clean annual audit. Support CFO to prepare long-term financial plan and annual budget. Manage organizational cash flow and treasury.

  • Own DRK grantee administration: Prepare grantee contracts, track grantee reporting and payments, ensure information is effectively tracked in Salesforce. Maintain an excellent experience for applicants and grantees. Ensure DRK continues to meet our legal and administrative requirements as a grantor. Own all contracts with grantees, working closely with CFO and attorneys as needed to track a range of complex international agreements.

  • Own all legal and contract administration: Review and prepare as needed vendor contracts, donor agreements, program-related investments, and employee offers. Ensure compliance with all contracts, domestic and international, and relevant IRS laws. Be the main liaison with outsourced attorneys to ensure accurate and timely reviews as needed.

  • Support donor relations: Working closely with the CEO, CFO, the Director of Marketing, Communications and Partnerships, and the Controller, prepare funder budgets and financial reports for donor partners. Be responsive to changing administrative needs of current and potential donors. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, guidelines, and donor requirements, including grant allocations.

  • Own operations, systems, and business administration: Manage the Systems Administrator to support and improve the Foundation's information and structural systems, including Salesforce, Google Apps, and Lever. Ensure we have the right systems tailored to meet our growing team’s needs.

  • Support other projects and Foundation operations: Work closely with multiple teams to support a range of projects, such as deal diligence, vendor management, hiring, and fundraising activities.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, professional setting

  • Technology-friendly, interested in learning new systems, and willing to hunt down answers

  • Experienced in running a nonprofit or foundation’s financial operations and interested in ongoing coaching to improve your skills

  • A college graduate and hold a JD/MBA

  • Able to work from our Menlo Park office 1-2 days per week

The position is located in San Francisco, CA, with expectation of working 1-2 days per week in Menlo Park, CA. Start date is flexible.
