Job Description:

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce (BCC) is the largest and fastest-growing Chamber of Commerce in New York. It was named 2017 Chamber of the Year by The Business Council of New York State. With its mission, “To promote a healthy and robust business environment throughout Brooklyn”, the BCC fosters economic development across the borough and serves as an advocate for its member businesses. In addition, the Brooklyn Alliance (founded in 1967), is the not-for-profit, economic development arm of the BCC. Branded under the Chamber banner, the Alliance’s programs are designed to leverage the Chamber’s resources in order to promote economic, community, business and workforce development. In addition, there is also a new initiative, Brooklyn Alliance Capital, a CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution) with a dedicated fund focusing on financing for minority- and immigrant-owned small businesses.

The BCC is seeking a new President and CEO who will continue the tenure of dynamic leadership and passionate advocacy on behalf of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board Chair and, by extension, the Executive Committee and full Board of Directors, the President and CEO is charged with carrying out the mission and operations of the BCC and its affiliate companies. S/he should possess a thorough understanding of the BCC, its mission, history, operations, membership and customer service orientation, services and programs, culture and environment;  as well as its base of public and private financial support, and the overall funding requirements of the related companies both short- and long-term.

The President and CEO must be a proven leader and consensus builder who is able to promote cooperation, collaboration and partnerships while advancing the core goals of the organization. S/he should have substantial experience working for or with elected and appointed officials, local, regional and national business leaders, and must demonstrate significant accomplishments and past successes. The successful candidate will be politically astute, a hands-on manager, a strategic thinker and planner, a problem solver and able to respond to crises quickly and effectively. An ability to promote an open, inclusive environment with the staff that emphasizes cooperation and teamwork with a minimum of ego is critical.

Two key priorities of the new President and CEO will be to ensure the success of BCC’s continued Centennial celebration and advocating within the public sector for the implementation of the BCC’s 100 Year Plan for Brooklyn, the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
