THE ROLE

The Senior Accountant (SA) will report to the Director of Finance/Accounting (DFA) and will be responsible for the processing of A/P, creating journal entries, performing account reconciliations, supporting and deploying system implementations, supporting audits, and rolling out various policies.  The SA will also support in the payroll process by verifying payroll information is complete and accurate and initiating and verifying payroll data in accordance to established policies and procedures. Additionally, the SA will participate in a variety of ad-hoc projects and reporting activities. He/she will help us build a strong finance and accounting infrastructure to support growth of the organization.  The SA should be comfortable with ambiguity and initiating conversations that lead to problem resolutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting

  • Assist with the implementation of the accounting and reporting system of a multi-entity structure
  • Review invoices and reimbursements for accuracy and process accounts payable through Expensify and Bill.com
  • Monthly reconciliation of organizational credit cards and ensuring accurate GL coding
  • Support month-end closing activities by preparing, verifying, and entering accurate journal entries and performing bank reconciliations
  • Implement the month end, quarter end, and year end financial reporting and analysis, including creating the financial reports and details
  • Assist in the preparation of various supporting documents, schedules, and analyses for internal financial, tax, and audit purposes
  • Assist in the design and documentation of internal processes and controls and partner with cross-functional teams on a regular basis to identify areas for improvement and solve problems
  • Prepare deposits of cash and checks for each entity and ensure correct coding in GL; deposit cash in bank on as-needed basis
  • Ensure adequacy of documentation of accounting transactions
  • Support the DFA in budget and forecasting activities as needed
  • Support in compliance reporting for private grants and public funding sources, including the California State Preschool Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the National School Lunch Program
Payroll
  • Verify payroll information submitted by employees and contractors is complete and accurate
  • Implement processing, inputting, checking and verifying payroll on a semi-monthly basis
  • Generate payroll reports in ADP as needed
  • Maintain required payroll documentation and support in accordance to established policies and procedures
  • Perform month-end close duties including payroll journal entries and allocations as needed



Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 - 6 years of professional experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP for nonprofits and schools a plus
  • 2 or more years of Accounting experience, preferably in non-profits and/or schools
  • Possess solid communication skills (written, presentation, verbal), as well as demonstrate strong interpersonal instincts
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Able to perform high quality work under deadline pressure and to be solution oriented with or without direct supervision
  • Possess an eye and drive for continuous system process improvement
  • Candidates should operate from a driving spirit of collaboration
  • Prefer candidates who have Quickbooks Online, ADP, Expensify, and BIll.com experience
