ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Founded in Houston in 2002, Genesys Works is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities through skills training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships. Genesys Works provides youth with eight weeks of training during the summer before senior year of high school, including technical skills in information technology and business operations, as well as the professional skills required to succeed in today’s corporate workplace.
Youth can earn paid, year-long internships at partner companies. Working 20 hours per week, Genesys Works students further develop and refine high-demand work skills while providing valued services to corporate partners.
College and Career Coaching
Throughout the year, students receive more than 60 hours of coaching with respect to college and career pathways, including guidance and counseling around college selection, applications, and financial aid assistance.
After completing the program, Genesys Works continues to offer guidance to its alumni in navigating the complex world of post-secondary institutions and supporting students when they face academic, social, and financial challenges that may impede their college and career success.
Employing nearly 20 full time professional staff with a program enrollment of over 200 students, in partnership with over 50 major corporations, GWC’s 2019 program budget is approximately $4 million. Approximately 70% of this current budget is generated through earned income from GWC’s corporate hiring partners; the organization raises just over $1 million in charitable donations to cover the rest.
