COOP Careers closes the social capital gap by recruiting and investing deeply in diverse, low-income, and first-generation grads from the City University of New York, San Francisco State, and other urban public colleges.
Our flagship program is the Digital Apprenticeship. Peer cohorts of 16 motivated, underemployed grads meet nightly for 16 weeks (200 hours) to learn technical skills, build community, and jumpstart careers in digital marketing and data analytics. Each cohort is led by a team of four captains, “near-peer” COOP alumni who serve as coaches, mentors, and guides on top of busy day jobs at local ad agencies and tech companies. In parallel, COOP helps these same employers meet, interview, and hire more and more diverse candidates.
Since 2014, COOP has run 76 cohorts with over 1,000 alumni, on our way to 10,000 by 2023. Four-in-five alumni work full-time, earning an average of $45,000 after 12 months (3x pre-program average) and almost $70,000 after three years (2x peer baseline).

COOP is an energetic, come-as-you-are, alumni-led organization. Over 70% of our staff members have been program participants. This translates to a workplace that is mission-driven through and through, where we collaborate in the spirit of servant leadership with equal parts head, heart and hustle. We are a team of 19 in the Bay Area and NYC. We come together for monthly lunch & learns and semi-annual retreats and earnestly create space for professional development and learning. Regional Program Management and Leadership Development - 50%
Provide strategic leadership, coaching, and staff development to all program team members, conducting weekly team and individual check-ins, and ensuring all staff receive a formal annual performance review and development opportunities
Develop and lead national and regional programmatic retreats to ensure programmatic excellence; collaborate with external experts when necessary
Consistently use data to understand program impact, set short and long-term “SMART” goals, measure incremental progress toward goals (tracking and measuring program quality indicators), and coach staff toward individual, team, and program goal achievement
National Leadership & Strategy - 20%
Collaborate closely with the CEO, COO, and NYC Sr. DoP for all organizational programmatic initiatives, ensuring that the strategy aligns with all functional areas and with all COOP markets
Play a critical role in the expansion of COOP into new geographic markets and sectors (beyond digital marketing and data analytics) with the goal of reaching four markets by 2021
Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and NYC Sr. DoP to develop a national and regional program budget, incorporating best practices for fiscal management
Uphold and exemplify COOP organizational values throughout the organization
Provide a confident, authentic, and servant leadership presence for COOP team members and all stakeholders
Program Quality, Curriculum Development & Innovative Practices - 30%
Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and NYC Sr. DoP to set and execute a comprehensive vision for programmatic excellence on all levels, driving program quality by refining, meeting, and exceeding (where applicable) specified outcomes
Develop a robust system of metrics, measurement framework, and evaluation tools to collect and track data, identify strengths, trends, growth areas, and opportunities for augmentation or needed programmatic elements and enhancements
Create reports and presentations to convey vision, progress, timelines, and operational plans to all relevant stakeholders
When necessary, work with outside organizations and consultants and to promote and/or enhance COOP’s program, programmatic outcomes, and sustainability
Explore new, innovative program opportunities, develop program ideas, launch pilot projects, and oversee the integration of successful pilots into full-scale programmatic changes within the scope of the COOP model
Develop strategic partnerships with peer organizations and industry leaders to share/borrow best practices and ensure COOP’s curriculum and program model remain relevant within a fast-changing industry
Collaborate with the Director of Partnerships to gauge feedback from partners and relevant stakeholders on COOP curriculum and ensure this feedback is vetted and incorporated into programmatic updates
7+ years of directly related professional experience with significant experience in the non-profit, education, and/or workforce development sectors highly desired
At least 5 years of experience developing, coaching and retaining individuals and teams with a focus on cultivating a data-driven, results-oriented, and high-feedback culture; track record of building efficiencies and implementing process improvements
Thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys teamwork and collaboration
Strong quantitative analytical skills with the ability to use data, and identify patterns and performance metrics to create targeted strategies for program and team performance improvement
Excellent communicator at a variety of levels with exceptional presentation skills and the ability to manage by influence and coach across a wide range of audiences
Proficiency in Google Suite, Salesforce, and Microsoft Office l, especially Excel/Sheets pivot tables and presentation decks
Experience managing a program budget, creating program budget proposals, and contributing to/interpreting program financial projections/models
Ability to travel occasionally to current and future COOP markets on a quarterly basis, on average
Ability to work a flexible schedule (most days starting at or after 12p), including attending evening programming 2-3 times per week, asl as two weekend retreats per year
Entrepreneurial, resourceful and open to change; flexible and adaptable with demonstrated success managing shifting priorities
Deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and aligned in thought and action with COOP’s values; strong alignment with COOP’s mission and vision
Bachelor’s degree required
You will thrive in this role if you are:
Skilled at managing teams (with preference for management across markets) and have experience, knowledge, and connections within the tech sector
Experienced working with historically underserved youth and under-resourced communities in a national nonprofit; experience running a fee for service or social enterprise model is a plus
