Compassionate Directions (CODI) seeks an experienced nonprofit leader with a solid understanding of providing trauma-informed behavioral healthcare as its next Executive Director.  The incoming leader will build on CODI’s recent transition to direct service care to ensure continued success, financial sustainability, and a compassionate, family-oriented culture.  The Executive Director leads an experienced internal team of clinical and administrative staff and ensures the organization remains adaptive to community needs.   

Compassionate Directions is a family-oriented nonprofit agency that provides compassionate care to the Mat-Su Borough. Based in Palmer, Alaska, CODI’s mission is “Healthier Families, Stronger Kids, and a Continuum of Services that can Support Families in Need.” CODI works with children from infancy through 21 years old and their families. CODI reaches its mission through diverse programs and services, including on-site therapy services for children and their families, parenting programs, case management, and in-community, one-on-one behavioral health support for children.

Compassionate Directions welcomes both clients and staff into a collaborative, trauma-informed environment.  The incoming leader will build on CODI’s recent service model transition to ensure continued success, financial sustainability, and continuity of organizational culture. This will include strengthening structures, policies, and procedures that reinforce high-quality service delivery.  The executive director will be the bridge between administrative and clinical staff, ensuring the organization has a cohesive and thoughtful team approach. The new executive will continue to build partnerships in the community that allow CODI to adapt its services to best address local needs.  As an active collaborator in the community, the new executive director will foster these behaviors within CODI’s leadership team. 

 

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director is the internal driver and external face of Compassionate Directions and oversees its day-to-day affairs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and implements the agency’s Strategic Plan in cooperation with the board
  • Responsible for executive development and administration of all organizational policies and procedures
  • Responsible for safe and effective executive management of all agency resources to include personnel, facilities, and all fund accounts
  • Assure cash flow and operational reserves are sufficient to meet agency needs
  • Develop annual budget in cooperation with the Board of Directors
  • Position organization to successfully navigate Medicaid shifts at the state level
  • Lead and cultivate a positive professional agency culture that embodies organizational values
  • Responsible for developing leadership potential within the organization, including hiring, training, timely evaluation, supervision and retention of personnel and succession planning
  • Responsible for Supervise clinical and administrative staff
  • Serve as primary spokesperson and representative for the agency
  • Ensure that the organization is represented in the community through collaboration and partnerships
  • Responsible for grant writing, administration, and management

Qualifications:

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes and experiences:

  • At least five years progressively increasing leadership experience in the nonprofit sector
  • Ability to understand and provide support to staff that serves a vulnerable, trauma-impacted population
  • Solid understanding of clinical care and processes related to behavioral health, including evidence-based practices
  • Financial understanding and management of a comparably sized budget and staff
  • Experience with grant writing, management, and administration
  • Experience developing effective community partnerships and collaborations
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate individual and team dynamics
  • Fosters a family-oriented culture and prioritizes self-care for both self and team
  • Compassionate listener to staff and clients’ needs and ability to discern an appropriate course of action
  • Decision making that balances a need for systems and structures and adaptability of a changing environment
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
