Job Description:

Development & Communications Associate - PT Hourly  25 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $16-$20 - Based on experience
Work Schedule:  Monday - Wednesday 10 am - 5pm, Thursday 10am - 2pm
Work Location: Onsite at 58 Newbury Street, Lawrence MA
Reports To: Development & Communication Manager

Summary: The Development & Communications Associate ensures the optimal operation of all aspects of fundraising and communications primarily by supporting the Development & Communications Manager - occasionally assisting the Executive Director and overall office operation with administrative support. Projects include website content management, donation input, reporting, & acknowledgement, foundation research support, both digital and print newsletters, managing social media accounts, providing support for the annual fundraising appeal (print + digital), and taking a pivotal role in event planning and execution (2 events per year).


Administrative Support 

  • Enter contacts and donations into database, facilitate weekly donor acknowledgements, run donation reports.

  • Provide phone and email inquiry support.

  • Manage volunteers/interns when relevant.

  • Supporting IT/office management tasks.

  • Other duties as needed.

Communications Support

  • Assist with creating and sending quarterly newsletter and bi-weely eNews

  • Capture photos, video and anecdotal collateral for website and social media

  • Upload content and maintain website on a weekly basis

  • Contribute to event and campaign communications (emails, invites, programs, etc.)

Development Support

  • Actively foster and support partnerships with community groups, individuals and businesses for both monetary and in kind donations of goods and services.

  • With guidance from the Development & Communications Manager, support ongoing funding research efforts and submissions of LOI’s (Letters of Inquiry)

  • Track grant funding pipeline using Asana.

  • Participate in the Fundraising Committee. Oversee efforts to recruit volunteers,  sponsorships and auction items for the annual event. Act as liaison to event vendors, volunteers, Board and guests.

  • Support the creation and rollout of the Annual Appeal.

  • Collect relevant program impact data as requested by the Development & Communications Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • B.A. in English, Communications or similar field

  • Experience in event coordination

  • 2-4 years of non profit experience

  • Familiarity with Google Suite, MSWord/Excel

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Experience using a database, such as Salesforce

  • The ability to work independently and switch gears frequently 

  • Capacity to represent B&R in a friendly and professional way

  • Openness to working with people from all walks of life

  • Enthusiasm about assisting those in need 

Desired Skills

  • Coursework related to non profit development or communications

  • Social media experience

  • Familiarity with email platforms, such as Mail Chimp

  • Familiarity with project management platforms, such as Asana

  • Familiarity with a website CMS, such as Squarespace

  • Creative writing background

  • Experience with funding research

  • Experience producing photo or video media
