About Campaign Legal Center

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. Through litigation, policy analysis, and public education, CLC works to protect and strengthen the U.S. democratic process across all levels of government. CLC is adamantly nonpartisan, holding candidates and government officials accountable regardless of political affiliation.  

CLC was founded in 2002 and is a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. Our work today is more critical than ever as we fight the current threats to our democracy in the areas of campaign finance, voting rights, redistricting, and ethics. CLC watchdogs government officials, provides expert analysis and helps journalists uncover violations. CLC also participates in legal proceedings across the country to defend the right to vote and ensure fair redistricting.

Position Summary

CLC is seeking a full-time Program Assistant to support all of its program teams. Reporting to CLC’s Director of Campaign Finance Strategy, the Program Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and research support to CLC’s four program areas. The Program Assistant’s responsibilities include assisting attorneys and paralegals with all aspects of litigation and non-litigation work, including by preparing court and administrative filings, preparing trial exhibits and materials for conferences and presentations, conducting research, drafting blogs and other written materials, managing correspondence, and maintaining electronic and paper records.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support program staff in:
    • preparing court filings, other legal documents, and materials for conferences and other presentations
    • transmitting, receiving, and maintaining correspondence with courts, opposing counsel, and others
    • arranging conferences and meetings
    • managing outside vendors, such as court reporters
  • Assist with research and drafting blogs and other written materials
  • In conjunction with Paralegals, maintain electronic and paper records
  • Occasionally attend meetings or events related to CLC’s work and report back on the content of the event
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Excellent administrative, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Commitment to the nonpartisan nature and overall mission of CLC
  • Demonstrated interest in election-related issues is desirable, but not required
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail

Additionally, skills in one or more of the following areas are preferred but not required: data analysis, data visualization, programming languages, and advanced functions of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
