Job Description:

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Kiva’s vision is one of a financially inclusive world where all people hold the power to improve their lives. Kiva’s flagship contribution to that vision is its global crowdfunding-based lending model that connects the financially excluded with lenders around the world. Kiva aims to drive social impact and enable opportunity while providing a borrower-to-lender connection: “Loans that change lives.” The organization has facilitated over $1.2 billion in loans from 1.3 million lenders to 3 million borrowers in over 90 countries. Lenders fund over $10 million in loans every month.

Having worked for 14 years to provide financial access to the unbanked and underserved, Kiva has become a trusted name with strong partnerships and has amassed knowledge and insights that can lead to systems-level solutions.  Kiva has recognized the important role it can play in amplifying its learnings and insights by marrying it with the innovative spirit it was founded upon at the intersection of technology and international development to remove the barriers that keep individuals out of the formal financial system.

Thus, Kiva is at a pivotal and exciting moment in its evolution, diversifying into a wider range of initiatives and exploring new frontiers of impact, in its pursuit of making faster progress in creating a truly financially inclusive world.

For example, Kiva recently launched a partnership that brings together the U.N. Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) in the creation of a bold, new impact line designed to give Sierra Leone’s five million citizens, more than half of whom have no formal identity or credit history, access to financial services. The centerpiece of the partnership is the new Kiva Protocol, which will create and establish a national digital identification system using distributed ledger technology (DLT). The system will help ensure that every citizen in Sierra Leone has secure and complete ownership of their personal data and information.  This is one example, among many, of new initiatives Kiva is pursuing.

With staff in San Francisco, Portland, New York, Nairobi, and Bangkok, Kiva's team includes 100+ employees and 400+ volunteers worldwide. The organization combines the culture and technological passion of an internet start-up with the compassion and empathy of a non-profit to address poverty on a global scale.  To learn more, please visit: https://www.kiva.org/
