The Internet Archive is seeking a Major Gifts Officer who can take our major donor portfolio to the next level. Since 2011, we have grown our donations by a whopping 4000%. But we know that’s only the beginning. As the development team’s major gifts specialist, you will be creating strategies, events and personal communications to engage our major donors (those giving $5000-$1,000,000+) throughout the year, increasing all metrics of success, from increasing the major donor base, retention to overall revenue.
Your goal will be two-fold: 1) to work with our strong pipeline of annual mid-level donors and help cultivate major donors from within that pool; and 2) to seek out and engage the “Big Bettor” donors: those able to make 7-8 figure gifts to carry out our $100 million project, Open Libraries, as well as other major initiatives.
The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Director of Partnerships and work with our founder and directors to meet and engage major donors. You will be joining a small but mighty development team that seeks to become cross-functional and resilient, raising $5M+ per year in direct donations.
As the Major Gifts Officer, you should be a talented communicator and savvy storyteller. You are as good at listening as you are at speaking, and can be exceedingly persuasive, especially in the form of in-person requests. You are a quick study: absorbing the organization’s projects and describing them persuasively to others. You have the creativity and vision to lead fundraising initiatives of all kinds—from a capital campaign to an intimate dinner. You are delighted to ask others for all kinds of support. You keep meticulous records of donor interactions, interests and preferences. You have lots of energy, set goals, meet your deadlines and will put in 150% to get a job done well. No task is too unimportant for you to handle and no challenge is too daunting for you to tackle.
Your position will include:
