Job Description:

The Upper School Principal is the instructional and inspirational leader of the Upper School (250 students from grades 6 - 12) and has primary responsibility for carrying out the School's mission of providing a rigorous and comprehensive dual curriculum for its students in an environment that works to create a strong Jewish identity, fosters a commitments to community for all of its stakeholders, and teaches each student the importance of Jewish values.  The Upper School Principal will lead an excellent faculty and have a day-to-day responsibility for student life, maintaining educational standards, professional development, and ensuring excellence in curriculum, teaching, and learning practices.

As a member of the School's senior leadership team, the Upper School Principal will participate in a number of whole-school activities including: helping to carry out our strategic planning, policy setting, and institutional advancement.  Reporting to the Head of School, he/she will be an expert educator, capable of leading both faculty and students alike, and advancing the School's commitment to providing a rigorous academic experience for each student.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience as an effective leader in independent, public, and/or Jewish day school environments.  He or she will be knowledgeable about educational trends including technology, skills, and differentiated instruction, and will preferably have an advanced degree related to the field.  Candidates must have a demonstrated track record of building meaningful and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff and parents.

  • Create an inspirational culture of kindness, inclusivity, rigorous academic pursuit, critical thought and Jewish community
  • ​Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Upper School and work closely with the Head of School to identify areas for Upper School growth, academic excellence, and community engagement
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of School, Lower School and Middle School Principals to ensure consistency in managing and monitoring the PK-12 curriculum and academic, social, and emotional development of each student
  • Lead the Middle School Principal and Department Chairs in the creation and oversight of academic policies and procedures
  • Oversee curriculum and direct curriculum updates and revisions
  • Assure an environment that prepares students for college and the world beyond high school
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, assignment, and supervision of faculty
  • Oversee the induction and orientation of new faculty and the ongoing professional development of all faculty
  • Oversee the coordination of all programs of the school in collaboration with the scheduling coordinator, the Director of Student Life, and the faculty.  Supervise the maintenance of a comprehensive calendar of school events and keep the school community informed of various school programs and activities
  • Support the work of the administrative team, particularly by working closely with development and admissions professionals to raise funds and attract, enroll, and retain students.  Meet with prospective students and parents and participate in outreach efforts
  • Create an annual master school class schedule and assign teachers and students to classes; work collaboratively with department chairs and guidance staff to fully plan and implement the schedule
  • Ensure efficient management of the financial operations of the Upper School


Qualifications:

The ideal successful candidate will have school leadership experience and will be an individual who possesses:

  • An advanced degree in Education, Educational Administration, Jewish Education, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years administrative and/or supervisory experience
  • A minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask
  • Familiarity with 21st century educational technology
  • Demonstrated expertise and ability to provide leadership in teaching and learning
