The Common Room (CR) is a newly formed nonprofit startup which will be located in the Metrowest area of Boston, Massachusetts. The mission of the CR is to create a place where individuals with high functioning autism and similar social profiles can gather and enrich their lives and enhance their interactions with others. A place where each individual feels they belong, that is the heart of a caring and inclusive community. that they can be part of a safe and comfortable environment. The CR can be a place where they go to combat the sense of loneliness and isolation and offer a wide range of experiences and activities that will be interesting and enjoyable.

Job Description:

The Role: Founding Director

Overview:The first director of the CR will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the CR by providing leadership for the development of the programmatic model, operating structure and services. The director will work closely with the board to develop, refine, and evaluate the mission, strategy, operations and member outcomes. 


Key responsibilities:

Identify, recruit, connect, and enroll appropriate candidates for membership in the CR.

Translate the CR’s vision into mission-aligned, high impact programs and services.

Cultivate partnerships and enhance opportunities available to members of the CR.

Build a unique program with a high-performing team and organizational culture. Recruit, train, and mentor staff and oversee volunteer engagement.

Develop and maintain initiatives including social and recreational programming, membership plans, marketing, and partnerships.

Coordinate office management, staff recruitment and training, volunteer training and recruitment, and safety/security

Effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders: the board, other agencies, members, volunteers, and other community constituents.

Assist the board in developing agency-wide evaluation metrics and reporting systems; supports the board’s fiduciary and strategic oversight role.

Evaluate and develop recommendations for visibility: service key internal members and community-facing liaison and champion.

Develop, maintain, and implement all operational policies and guidelines pertaining to: programmatic leadership, office management, volunteers, recreation, quality assurance and human resources for the immediate future.

Salary: range from $80,000 to $100,000. Will entertain possible part time in initial phase of program design and development.


Qualifications:

Candidate profile: The Board is seeking to hire a creative and forward thinking, dynamic and high-energy adult with exceptional communication skills. The most essential attribute has to be the ability to connect, work with, and understand adults with high functioning autism and similar social profiles. The director must have either a track record of either developing or assisted in growing a program within a social service setting. Ideally this person has managed within a small, fast-paced organization or program, brings good attention to details and creative problem-solving skills.
