About the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

Founded by philanthropist and filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, Co-CEO and President of Ariel Investments, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will inspire current and future generations through the universal art of visual storytelling. The museum will present a permanent collection and rotating exhibitions for diverse public audiences which will feature illustrations, paintings, comic art, photography, and an in-depth exploration of the arts of filmmaking (including storyboards, costumes, animation, visual effects, and more). Extensive education programming designed for all ages will explore innovative ways for visitors to engage with narrative art. Designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects and under construction in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, the museum will feature new public green space, state-of-the-art cinematic theaters, a research library, numerous spaces for onsite education, restaurants, retail, and event spaces. Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing, the Marketing Manager will take a lead role in developing strategic integrated marketing programs that leverage traditional and digital media to support the museum in its lead-up to opening. The Marketing Manager will be responsible for the Lucas Museum’s advertising and marketing strategy and execution, including email marketing, traditional and digital paid advertising, partnership development, tourism marketing, and working with the museum’s website. This position will play a key role in engaging the public with the museum in advance of and after the museum’s opening by developing strategies for marketing all of the museum’s programming, including exhibitions, public programs, education and community engagement events. The Marketing Manager will create and distribute regular reports to team members across the museum and use data to augment strategy to best achieve goals. Collaboration with internal colleagues in addition to external relationship management with media partners, vendors, agencies, and designers will be integral to the Marketing Manager’s role. The ideal candidate has experience managing multi-channel marketing campaigns and has a passion and curiosity for art, museums, writing, current marketing trends, analytics, and community.

Primary Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Marketing Management

  • Develops and executes marketing strategy;
  • Manages the museum’s advertising and marketing campaigns, including ad buys and trafficking creative;
  • Consult with internal and external stakeholders on marketing campaign strategies;
  • Work closely with and communicate regularly across all departments;
  • Ensures consistent branding across all marketing channels, including digital and print;
  • Manages the museum’s email communications through MailChimp, including content, proofreading, design, and schedule;
  • Defines the analytic and data structure for the marketing team;
  • Analyzes, presents and reports on marketing analytics regularly and as needed;
  • Develops and maintains partnerships for promotion of museum and museum programming;
  • Aids in audience research and data collection management;
  • Work closely with team on social media advertising strategy and execution;
  • Stays current on marketing trends and relevant issues and can envision impact on the museum.

Special projects and other duties as designated by Director of Communications and Marketing, Managing Director of External Affairs, Deputy Director or designee

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, new media, museum studies, or related field required;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of previous experience working in a marketing role is required;
  • Two (2) years of prior experience managing marketing campaigns for a brand or non-profit;

 

Skills

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of current advertising and marketing landscape and trends;
  • Excellent knowledge of the digital advertising and social media paid marketing ecosystems;
  • Excellent knowledge of email marketing and experience working with database software;
  • Experience managing backend website CMS, familiarity with HTML;
  • Familiarity with graphic design and photo editing software (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop);

  • Proven ability and desire to create efficient and effective marketing campaigns for brands and/or organizations;
  • Proven ability to plan schedules, track progress, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to negotiate the requests and needs of different internal stakeholders while firmly advocating for our audiences;
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines across projects both large and small in scope;
  • Ability to analyze and report on marketing performance metrics;
  • Ability to learn, work, and grow within a fast-paced, challenging environment.
