College Track is a comprehensive college completion program that empowers students from underserved communities to graduate from college. From ninth grade through college graduation, our 10-year program removes the academic, financial, and social-emotional barriers that prevent low-income and first-generation students from earning their college degree. In 1997, we started with 25 students in East Palo Alto, and today, we have ten centers located in underserved communities across California, Colorado, Louisiana, and the D.C. Metro Area with more than 3,000 students on the path to upward social mobility.

Position Overview

As part of the Strategic Initiatives team and reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives (DSI), the Internal Communications Manager will work across the organization to improve internal communications and coordination of projects in support of College Track’s mission.  Specifically, this role will partner with the DSI to develop internal communications strategies, create communications standards and practice, and serve as a thought partner for organization-wide leadership communications that honor College Track’s DEI philosophy. The Internal Communications Manager will collaborate on the development and implementation of project management and change management standards, practices, and resources to ensure that critical organization-wide initiatives are communicated effectively and engaging the right people, at the right time, and in the right way. 


Responsibilities:

Internal Communications (60%)

  • Define and implement an internal communications strategy that will create an environment of transparency and inclusion across the organization 

  • Create communications standards and best practices for College Track, supporting the organization with the initial adoption period, continued use, and full transition of the standards to ensure continuity in the way that messages are conveyed throughout the organization

  • Serve as a communications thought partner for the organization’s leaders, project owners, and teammates

  • Devise clear  expectations for decision making at all levels of the organization, including meaningful engagement, teammate inclusion, establishing and practicing authentic feedback loops

  • Collaborate across teams to gather information and publish the monthly internal newsletter to all full and part-time staff across the country 

  • In partnership with the DSI and members of the leadership team, develop the agendas for bi-monthly all staff meetings, collaborating with department and project leads in creating materials and branded presentations, consistent with communications best practices

  • Help create a vibrant culture where staff feel valued, appreciated and included, that attracts and retains top, mission-driven talent for our growing organization


Project Communications & Change Management (40%)

  • Partner with the DSI to develop Project Management resources (i.e. project planning templates and resources) to ensure projects are executed in a consistent and reliable manner and are in alignment with internal communications standards and best practices

  • Support the implementation of new initiatives, advising on engagement strategy, creating internal communications plans and resources, change management plans, and reporting back to leadership on adoption

  • Develop and implement a consistent input-gathering and change management strategy for organization-wide initiatives

Qualifications:

Skills & Experience Required

First and foremost, the Communications Manager must embody the belief that every student has the potential to change the world, through the power of education. Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree (ideally in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field)

  • 2 - 4 years experience managing communications in a matrix organization that’s geographically dispersed

  • 2 - 4 years of experience with project management and change management

  • Passion for DEI work and excited to develop communication standards, tools, and templates that value diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Turning complex information into relevant, engaging, timely and valuable content for employees.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise great judgment in fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Believes in the innate value of teamwork and loves to build strong trusting working relationships

  • Strong collaboration, partnership, and project management skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels of management

  • Ability to formulate recommendations and influence decision making

  • Experience developing newsletters and managing an email marketing campaign platform  (Constant Contact a plus)

  • A high degree of comfort with the Google Suite (Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.)
