Job Description:

The Senior Director of Alumni Impact will manage a growing team of three, two whom are focused on executing KIPP’s national alumni leadership goals and one of whom is focused on building alumni communication channels. The Senior Director position will report directly to the Chief of Policy and Public Affairs and is a member of the Policy and Public Affairs team, which is comprised of: Alumni Impact, Communications, Federal Advocacy and Policy, Local Advocacy and Policy, Community Engagement, and Marketing. The Senior Director of Alumni Impact will work collaboratively with the Policy and Public Affairs team, and in close coordination with the Office of the CEO, the Development Team, The Chief Equity and Inclusion Office, and other program teams, especially including the High School, KIPP through College and Careers, College Counseling, Persistence, and Career development team.

As a senior leader at KIPP, you will also be a vocal, active, and consistent voice in representing and championing the interest of KIPP alumni. This will include building systems to elevate alumni voices and leadership within KIPP, speaking at KIPP alumni and regional events, building alumni culture and community, increasing alumni in KIPP’s pipeline for school, regional, and national leadership,  building partnerships with external organizations, supporting fundraising efforts, building communication campaigns that elevate alumni stories, and partnering with alumni to drive policy change.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Building and Executing Alumni Impact Vision, Strategy and Programs

·         Build and lead a robust 5-year strategic plan to engage alumni at scale and organize alumni to be connected to each other, to KIPP, and to opportunities for leadership and advocacy beyond KIPP 

·         Set metrics to deliver on the strategy, and report out on progress at regular increments

·         Create intentional channels for alumni to have a powerful voice and presence within KIPP, including through governance boards and staff leadership

·         Coordinate regional alumni engagement efforts

·         Oversee key national alumni impact initiatives:   

·         National Alumni Network: piloting and scaling new programs and events that provide value for alumni, inspire lifelong connection to KIPP, and mobilize alumni for action and advocacy beyond KIPP

·         Alumni Leadership Programs: growing and sustaining KIPP’s scholarship and alumni leadership programs (e.g., KIPP Alumni Leadership Accelerator Program, Goldberg Scholarship Program, Amplify Scholarship Program, Capitol Hill Fellows program)

·         Alumni Communications: growing KIPP’s alumni communication strategy to reach new segments of alumni through social media, email, and other channels

Team Management

·         Manage a growing team of three, hiring additional teammates and building a world-class team as our alumni strategies develop

·         Lead with KIPP Foundation’s values: a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a sense of responsibility; constant learning and humility; respect; and results

Public Speaking and Advocacy

  • Serve as a public-facing champion of KIPP alumni
  • Speak at regional KIPP alumni events, at KIPP high schools, at meetings with regional leaders, at conferences, and at other KIPP and external events
  • Galvanize alumni through virtual communications including videos, blog posts, and social media
  • Use your platform to elevate alumni experience, voices, and leadership within and outside KIPP

Stakeholder Management and Relationship Building

·         Build transformative relationships with alumni, KIPP regions, and KIPP Foundation teams

·         Coordinate alumni efforts across multiple KIPP Foundation teams and stakeholders, including especially the KIPP through College and Careers Team

·         Partner with KIPP regional teams on building a united vision for alumni engagement and leadership

·         Partner with the KIPP development team to manage current grants that support alumni engagement and leadership work; assist KIPP’s development team in securing and stewarding future grants   

Key Competencies

  • Deep and visible commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to organize large groups of constituents virtually (especially Gen Z/ millennials)
  • Excellent relationship builder with experience in complex stakeholder management
  • Entrepreneurial systems-builder who can launch and scale new programs
  • Effective people manager and team leader
  • Ability to develop and execute program strategy in a national, affiliate-model organization
 

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience
  • Experience engaging and partnering with young adults (eg. 18-28-year-old people)
  • Passion for KIPP’s mission and values and for educational equity
  • Demonstrated track record in challenging and influencing peers to approach all work with an equity and student-centric lens
  • Experience creating and managing strategy, systems and operations in a networked, national organization
  • Background and experience in an entrepreneurial role within a national, affiliate-model organization 
  • Travel requirements 25-30%
  • Full-time, exempt role
  • Ideally this role would be based in NYC, but we will consider applicants based in other location.
