School the World is an international nonprofit committed to solving extreme poverty through education. We work at a deeply local level, partnering with local governments and communities to create a culture centered around education.
Over the last decade, School the World has focused on primary school education in the poorest areas of Guatemala and Honduras. We have built 100 schools and 49 playgrounds, extensively trained 350+ teachers, empowered 6,248 parents to become the “first educators” of their children, and created 400+ classroom libraries. More than 30 of these schools and playgrounds were funded and built by 800+ U.S. high school students working alongside parents and community leaders. Our revenue has grown an average of 20% year over year and is on track for 30%-40% in 2019.
In the decade ahead, we will begin with early childhood, making sure children are ready to learn when they arrive in school, and we will continue past primary school to give every child the opportunity to continue their education through “Basico”, 7th-9th grade and achieve reading, writing, math and digital competencies. Our goal is to expand to other developing countries and replicate the success we have witnessed in Central America, transforming entire communities through education.
Reporting to the C.E.O., this new position is an opportunity to drive growth through identifying and cultivating prospective donors as well as manage and oversee relationships with existing donors.
Develop and implement strategies for solicitation that will grow annual revenue from individuals;
Conduct prospect research and develop major gift prospect cultivation plans; Manage CEO major gift cultivation cultivation calendar with personal visits, telephone calls and other communications;
Manage and monitor online giving initiatives, work collaboratively with Communications Manager to advance fundraising goals;
Implement fundraising strategy and coordinate logistics for fundraising events;
Create and oversee calendar of annual fund communications including: donor events, solicitation mailings, digital strategy, and electronic communications
Ensure all donors receive appropriate, prompt acknowledgement and updates on the impact that their gifts have made
Passion for and commitment to the mission, philosophy, values and education strategy of School the World;
Portray a commitment to building relationships with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, prospective individual donors, and all supporters;
Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and exceed work goals;
Results oriented; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives; ability to work independently;
Demonstrated experience using motivational skills that indicate willingness to do what is needed at any given time to positively adhere to the mission of the organization;
A strategic thinker with a growth mindset;
Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, high volume, multi-faceted environment;
Firm understanding of moves management and effective fundraising pipeline development
Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship;
3-5 years experience in fundraising, sales and/or grant writing with a track record of measurable results;
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with individuals across cultures
Outgoing personality and demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications and relationship-building;
Strong knowledge base of all aspects of fundraising with a strong emphasis on individual giving programs
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team effort;
International experience a plus.
