Dalio Education Initiatives operates as an entrepreneurial team within the Dalio Family Office and Dalio Philanthropies.  The Dalio Family Office provides operating support to Dalio Education Initiatives while ensuring strong risk management, compliance, and operational performance management.     


Dalio Education Initiatives works to strengthen public education in Connecticut by engaging with educators, community leaders, and young people to achieve positive outcomes and greater equity across the state.  Toward that end, Dalio Philanthropies has invested more than $60 million in public education in Connecticut since 2015.  Dalio Education Initiatives leads a results-driven philanthropic platform that includes:


·     The Connecticut RISE Network, an independent non-profit organization with a staff of 30+ individuals collaborating with more than 1,000 educators to facilitate a cross-district improvement network to improve outcomes for 14,000 high school students;


·     The Partnership for Connecticut, a newly formed independent non-profit organization that will soon hire staff and develop programs to connect high school-aged youth to educational and career opportunities and support job creation through microfinance and social entrepreneurship;


·     The Connecticut Opportunity Project, Dalio Education Initiative’s program to strengthen youth-serving organizations striving to positively impact young people who are disengaged or disconnected from high school by helping them graduate and succeed in their lives;


·     Several projects benefiting students, public schools, and communities through an approach that supports educators and emphasizes the development of the whole child; and


·     Collaborations with like-minded funders, such as the Collective Impact Opportunity Fund which brings together funders committed to closing opportunity gaps in Fairfield County through a collective impact approach to grant-making and partnerships.

Job Description:

We seek a driven, talented, and dynamic individual to serve as Operations Manager to help Dalio Education Initiatives achieve its mission.  Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and working in close collaboration with the Dalio Family Office, the Operations Manager will help the Dalio Education Initiatives team to administer grant-making and portfolio management activities.  The Operations Manager will also support the team in developing and implementing operating systems, tools, and practices to measure and evaluate the impact of philanthropic initiatives.  This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is highly conceptual and adaptive, and looking to acquire experience in education philanthropy through a role that is more operational than programmatic.

A successful candidate must have strong analytical capabilities, superior organizational skills, and a growth mindset. He or she will play an integral role on a small team, working hard to achieve a bold mission.  This role will require rolling up one’s sleeves in order to execute multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment that is oftentimes ambiguous and fluid.

Core Responsibilities:

Support the grant-making process by collaborating with program leaders and the Dalio Family Office (40%)

  • Perform research and due diligence on potential grants and grantees
  • Assist in reviewing proposals and supporting program leaders in developing recommendations 
  • Work with program leaders to develop grant agreements with clear metrics and timelines
  • Initiate grant processing and payments in the grants management system
  • Summarize grantee reports and prepare updates and presentations on grant results

Advance portfolio management activities by working in close coordination with program leaders (25%)

  • Conduct research to build a network of best-in-class prospective vendors aligned to team goals
  • Develop RFPs and RFIs and provide leverage for program leaders in engaging with prospective vendors 
  • Support vendor management activities, including sourcing, contracting, and onboarding vendors
  • Assist in tracking initiative budgets and provide regular budget updates and reports

Help the team to measure and evaluate its impact and effectiveness (20%)

  • Work with the team to set and monitor goals and aligned key performance indicators
  • Improve operating systems, tools, and practices to enable data-informed decision-making
  • Support efforts to maximize the return on investment for major philanthropic initiatives
  • Identify and promote practices for measurement and evaluation

Assist the team in advancing strategic initiatives (15%)

  • Execute ad hoc projects, research, and initiatives as necessary to advance the team’s mission
  • Support team leadership in forming and managing relationships with external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with colleagues in furthering the team’s brand and communications strategy
  • Provide leverage in support of special projects and events


The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications:

    At least three years of experience in philanthropic grant-making and/or data management and research experience with an interest in public education;

    Bachelor’s degree required; and

    Demonstrated proficiency utilizing data systems and tools for data entry and analysis, and exceptionally skilled in SalesForce Foundation Connect,Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
