In consultation with and reporting to the table Steering Committee, the Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing the organizations’ collective vision, financial resources, and long-range strategies for pursuing their respective missions, enhancing the ability of partner groups to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications:

While no one candidate will possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will embody many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:


  • 7-10 years of experience working in a senior management role for political campaigns, union or community organizing, advocacy, or similar fast-paced environments;


  • A strategic and comprehensive approach to organizational and coalition planning and decision making; the ability to lead through periods of political transition and membership expansion, requiring creative and innovative solutions to real time, on-the-ground challenges. Ability to recognize and capitalize on political opportunities while staying mission-aligned;


  • Commitment to social and economic justice, with demonstrated success in leading organizational and community conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion.


  • A successful track record in identifying and securing funding through diverse sources. A commitment to maintaining current funders and cultivating new funding relationships, and a history of achieving sustained financial support for an organization. Ability and enthusiasm to involve coalition partners in the fundraising process;


  • Proven track record of exceptional staff management, support, and development, fostering a culture of collaboration, mentoring, and regular feedback;


  • Demonstrated success working across internal and external teams and inspiring others to work towards shared objectives. Successful experience creating an inclusive environment working as part of a multidisciplinary team and working effectively with persons from diverse cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds;


  • Professional philosophy that places organizational and/or shared goals and objectives at the forefront of the work;


  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.  Demonstrated success in convening groups and facilitating workplans and engage partners and stakeholders with a collaborative and energizing approach;


  • Ability to understand and synthesize data, using it to inform strategy and problem solve;


  • Solid understanding of state-level legislative processes and cycles. Experience with Maine legislative and political structures desired, but not required;


  • Experience in budget preparation and planning and financial compliance; and


  • Ability to travel as needed around the state of Maine and work from the organizations’ Augusta, Maine-based office a few times per week.
