Mission statement:

The Move to End Violence (MEV) team at The Raben Group is seeking a Director of Operations. MEV is an operational program of the NoVo Foundation, dedicated to strengthening and supporting the movement to end violence against all girls and women in the United States, including cis and trans women and girls and those who are gender non-conforming and non-binary. Through convenings, workshops, virtual resources, and organizational supports, MEV aims to foster transformational leaders; explore practices of liberation and equity; build healthy and sustainable organizations; and support a strong social justice movement. Please click here to learn more about our core program elements.

Job Description:

This is an opportunity for a highly skilled leader to help foster an inclusive and dynamic organizational culture and to strengthen and manage organizational infrastructure to ensure we have the systems, policies, and processes to do our work effectively in a values-driven way and with an equity lens. We are looking for a self-starter who will bring a high level of excellence and intention to their work in a complex program with many moving parts. 

Move to End Violence will sunset in mid-2023 – our hope is to find a team member who is committed to staying with us through the end of the initiative. This position has a key role in closing down the program in a responsible and thoughtful way. 

Core responsibilities include:

Organizational Learning & Capacity Building

  • Work with our independent contractor to help design and manage our program evaluation goals, including supporting in the collection of relevant data and in collective sense-making, both in an ongoing way and as part of our sunset.
  • Support the creation of benchmarks and dashboards to measure progress and keep the team informed, including providing analysis and research on organizational performance.
  • Manage the documentation of the program and operations for internal and institutional purposes, as well as for the benefit of others in our field as part of our sunset.
  • Prepare biannual reports to The NoVo Foundation on our our key accomplishments, challenges, and learnings.

 

Finance & Operations

  • Design and manage organizational systems that create a values-aligned organizational culture, including creation of policies and processes.
  • Manage day to day fiscal functions, including budgeting, forecasting, payment requests, reporting, monthly reconciliation, expense report review, quarterly invoicing, and final close-out  in partnership with the finance and operations team at The Raben Group.
  • Manage contracting for consultants, vendors, and event sites, including building relationships, practicing effective communication, and ensuring compliance and tracking and final close-out through a racial and gender justice lens.
  • Understand protocols, laws, and risk management as a project of a private 501(c)(3) foundation being run by a private LLC consulting firm. 

 

Team Support & Development

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new employees in partnership with the HR team at The Raben Group.
  • Support effective team operations, development, and communications through the introduction and maintenance of effective  management tools to stay connected as a virtual team. I.e. Slack, Asana, Basecamp.
  • Work with the Co-Directors to design and implement regular performance reviews, professional development support, and other strengths-based learning and feedback practices.
  • Support team in fostering an equitable and inclusive culture of shared leadership across positions of power and social identities.
  • Support team transition processes as part of the sunset.

 

Programmatic Operations

  • Provide operations support to program staff for events, such as setting up registration processes, managing participant data, liaising with our travel agent and key vendors, and managing relationships with event venues.
  • Serve as a team member for programmatic events, sometimes on-site with the host team and at times in the role of home team.
  • Partner with program manager in coordination of organizational development supports, including coordinating with coaches, tracking hours used, and providing logistical support for Organizational Development-related events and meetings. 
  • Manage our various listservs and mailing lists and other audience data.

 

Frequent travel (at least once per month) is likely. The Director of Operations will work closely with and report to the program’s Co-Directors.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with and experience in U.S. social justice movements with an intersectional feminist analysis around nonprofits, money, and power;
  • Demonstrated experience with organizational budgeting and financial management;
  • Comfort with databases, spreadsheets, online survey tools, list management, and organizing large amounts of information and data;
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead the development of effective and dynamic small teams;
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and committed to accuracy, with an affinity for systems and systemic approaches;
  • Creative problem solver who anticipates challenges, uses good judgement, and is able to hold the big picture;
  • Effective communicator who can interpret, explain, and troubleshoot financial concepts and reports and complex systems;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills across race, gender, class, and multiple identities and experience working in diverse teams;
  • Ready and willing to bring their whole self into this work with a high level of self-awareness;
  • A willingness to practice and engage with different styles of leadership, followership, and creative collaboration (e.g. co-leadership, managing up);
  • Committed to creating and participating in a values-driven workspace with candor, vulnerability, humility, and a sense of humor.

 

The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender justice; experience with disability justice, language justice, and healing justice are helpful, though not required. Preference for bilingual or multilingual speakers. We strive to create space for folks who identify with our current cohort of Movement Makers. MEV seeks to center the leadership of women of color and Indigenous women, including cis and trans women and those who are gender non-conforming, and others who are most impacted by gender-based violence in this country.
