About the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art


Founded by philanthropist and filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, Co-CEO and President of Ariel Investments, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will inspire current and future generations through the universal art of visual storytelling. The museum will present a permanent collection and rotating exhibitions for diverse public audiences which will feature illustrations, paintings, comic art, photography, and an in-depth exploration of the arts of filmmaking (including storyboards, costumes, animation, visual effects, and more). Extensive education programming designed for all ages will explore innovative ways for visitors to engage with narrative art. Designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects and under construction in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, the museum will feature new public green space, state-of-the-art cinematic theaters, a research library, numerous spaces for onsite education, restaurants, retail, and event spaces. Position Summary (Intent and purpose of the role)

Reporting to the Managing Director of Technology, the Director of Computing & Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing the infrastructure of staff offices and the museum, as well as the end-user computing needs of the museum staff. The position sets the strategy to ensure a reliable and stable network and provides the computing tools and technology that allow for staff to do their jobs efficiently. The position will work with relevant departments and stakeholders to develop technology and security policies that follow best practices, while accounting for the needs of the museum and its staff. This position is a senior management role that requires a strategic vision, attention to detail, and a proactivity to resolving problems. It will also involve occasionally being on the front lines to personally take ownership and resolve problems.

Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Information Technology

  • Develops and oversees computing (desktop/laptop/phone/mobile) strategy and including deployments/provisioning, upgrades and support;
  • Develops and oversees network and security design, strategy and maintenance;
  • Negotiates and manages relevant vendor contracts including ISP, telecom and end-user software;
  • Manages required patching and security vulnerabilities and oversees staff education of security best practices;
  • ​Works with relevant departments to develop and administer appropriate technology-related policies;
  • ​Oversees and supports end-user computing needs and provides an escalation point for help desk and infrastructure issues;
  • ​Manages disaster recovery planning;
  • ​Oversees and develop tracking systems for user licensing and device inventory;

Staff and Team Management

  • Recruits and manages a diverse and excellent team to support the development and execution of the information technology plan;
  • Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality;
  • Mentors and develops a staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis;
  • Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals;

Special projects and other duties as designated by the Managing Director of Technology or assigned designee.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, information systems or a related field;
  • 7 or more years of experience working in the Information Technology field, with 3 or more years of experience working as an engineer or overseeing infrastructure and 3 or more years managing desktop services;
  • 3 or more years in a leadership or management role and having direct reports;
  • Museum, cultural attraction, public venue or non-profit experience is highly desired;
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, with a proven record of attracting and retaining expert staff and fostering a dynamic and collaborative work environment;
  • Previous experience managing large-scale projects and overseeing and prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;
  • Experience managing technology related construction as part of a larger construction project desired;
  • Experience with contract negotiations with vendors and suppliers;

Knowledge

  • Expert in overseeing network design, architecture and troubleshooting including managing ISPs, switches, wireless access points and firewalls;
  • Expert in management of standard help desk functions including computing configuration and deployment and support;
  • Expert in dealing with vendors including request for proposal (RFP’s) / request for information (RFI’s), negotiating contracts, point of sale and invoicing and overseeing project implementation and support
  • Hands on technology experience in the following areas:
    • PCs & Macs
    • Microsoft Azure and Office 365
    • Deploying and monitoring cyber security software
    • Phone systems
    • A/V collaboration hardware and software
    • Office printing and scanning
  • Strong experience with access management and pass-through authentication including Active Directory and SSO;
  • Experience overseeing cyber security strategy;
  • Familiarity with implementing and managing help desk ticketing systems;
  • Familiarity with managing business continuity and disaster recovery;

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for and successfully implement new and innovative uses of technology in a visitor/customer service environment at scale;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituencies and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of technological faults and be hands on, as necessary, to minimize system and/or hardware downtime;
  • Proven ability to work effectively and positively with staff across all organizational levels and disciplines, as well as with external stakeholders;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical constituencies.
