The Market is operated by the Reading Terminal Market Corporation, a non-profit corporation, with an appointed and elected Board of Directors. Under this model, the Market has prospered. Currently, the Market has more than seventy-five independent small business merchants who offer an array of fresh and prepared foods, lunch counters, and places to eat and shop, and the Market has earned its place among the world's best public markets. In an era of change and competition, the goodwill and loyalty of the Market's customers is unique and sustaining.

Against this backdrop, the Market is looking for its next General Manager. This is an exciting role requiring passion for the Market as an historical institution and a shining civic gem. The General Manager is responsible for preserving the architectural and historical character of the Market; overseeing the function of the Market as an urban farmers' market; managing all facets of the Market's operations; directing leasing operations; managing the Corporation's professional staff; working closely with the Merchants' Association; and reporting to the Board of Directors. The General Manager will represent the Market and ensure the effectiveness of advertising and promotions, and will lead fundraising, development, and grant seeking efforts. S/he will also be responsible for facilities, customer relations and sound financial performance. The ideal candidate will have the creativity and vision to lead the Market as a culinary epicenter.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, the following experience is required:

  • 8+ years of experience managing operations for hospitality facilities serving the public.
  • Interface with diverse internal and external stakeholders, the public, government leaders and civic groups.
  • Ability to manage leasing and facilities; success in anticipating issues and problem solving.
  • Experience with contracts and operational and capital budgeting.
  • Comfort in communicating with various audiences including customers and merchants.
  • Experience managing and developing a staff and reporting to a Board of Directors.
  • Not-for-profit experience would be helpful but is not required.
