Job Description:

The Opportunity

YWCA Clark County, a multi-service nonprofit organization and social justice advocate, is seeking a strategic and collaborative Executive Director. Based in Vancouver, WA, and operating with an annual budget of approximately $4 million, we provide life-changing services to adults, children, and families.

Our next Executive Director will be a racial equity champion with 5 or more years of senior leadership and management experience who enjoys building relationships and fundraising for a powerful mission: to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

About YWCA Clark County

YWCA Clark County’s programs focus on improving the daily lives of women, children, and families in Clark County; preventing violence in the home and in our community; and eliminating oppression wherever it is found. Since the organization was founded more than 100 years ago, our services have continually evolved in response to community needs. We now serve more than 12,000 individuals each year, including: victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse; youth aging out of foster care; and preschool children at-risk of or experiencing homelessness.

YWCA Clark County’s incoming Executive Director will lead a talented and mission-driven management team and staff, and report to a dedicated community-based board of directors. Priorities for the Executive Director include:

  • Raising visibility. Lead the development of a communication strategy to raise our profile and increase engagement among volunteers, donors, communities of color, and the public.
  • Building financial sustainability: Amplify efforts to increase individual giving alongside revenues from grants and contracts. Create a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
  • Advancing racial equity: Champion racial equity and the implementation of our Racial Equity Policy, including concrete actions and accountability. Embedding racial equity across our programs, operations, and governance.
  • Supporting the staff team with a positive and sustainable workplace. Continue efforts to improve staff compensation, create a culture of appreciation, and support workplace wellbeing.

  • Leadership: A demonstrated commitment to our mission: eliminating racism and empowering women. Experience developing strategy, forging community partnerships, engaging a nonprofit board of directors, leading a senior management team, developing and supporting the staff, and nurturing a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • Equity and Inclusion: An intersectional analysis (e.g., race, gender, LGBTQ+, immigration status). Ability to serve as spokesperson and champion for YWCA Clark County’s commitment to racial equity. Experience incorporating racial equity within an organization’s culture, practices, and policies. Experience working with or in communities of color and awareness of the persistent disparities and injustice they face.
  • Fundraising: A successful track record of resource development including individual gifts. Ability to foster a culture of philanthropy, engaging board and staff members as partners in fundraising.
  • Communications: A compelling, strength-based communicator with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to form internal and external relationships, and to effectively represent the organization to diverse stakeholders including donors, media, partners, elected officials, and other government contacts.
  • Financial Management: At least 5 years of senior management, including experience with financial strategy and organizational budget management involving complex funding streams (e.g., individual gifts, events, local and national foundation grants, and city, county, state and federal contracts).

  • Existing relationships with SW Washington/Portland metropolitan area organizations, donors, and other community contacts
  • Awareness of community issues and the public policy landscape
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Personal or professional experience with direct service work
