Budget Buddies seeks to empower low-income women through financial literacy and coaching. We envision a world in which all women are financially empowered.

Budget Buddies seeks to reduce the disproportionate number of women and women-headed families who live on the economic margins. Working with low-income women who are aspiring to transition from a life of dependence to a life of empowered independence, we help the graduates of our program gain the confidence and skills to improve their lives and the lives of their families through greater economic stability, sustained employment, increased educational opportunities, and better housing security.

Job Description:

The Board of Directors role is to keep the organization on mission and financially stable. The
Board works closely with the Executive Director to set the vision for the organization and
develop strategies to realize its mission. The Board of Directors holds the responsibility for
setting governance policy for the organization.

Budget Buddies is seeking directors who share our passion for financially empowering low-
income women and girls. We are currently looking for directors with connections (to
program partners, volunteers, and potential funders) in the communities we seek to serve,
specifically: Dorchester, Roxbury, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, among others.

Budget Buddies expects that the Board of Directors will:
- Be ambassadors to build the organization’s visibility and network;
- Ensure Budget Buddies’ financial health by reviewing and approving the budget;
- Participate in Board meetings, including preparing in advance for meetings and
participating fully in discussion during the meetings;
- Conduct the annual appraisal of the Executive Director, and when necessary hire
and/or dismiss the Executive Director;
- Support in the vetting, and approval of new Directors;
- Every Board member is expected to financially contribute to Budget Buddies annually
both individually and towards a Board designated collective goal. Individual
donations should be one of the member’s top donations;
- Support efforts to reach the Board designated fundraising goal;
- Disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse oneself from voting in situations where
such conflicts exist.


Members of the Board agree to serve a three-year term, which can be renewed at the
discretion of the Board. The board meets bi-monthly, except in August. All Board members are asked to serve on one committee which translates to about 4-5 hours / month.

3. ED Meeting: Meet (in person or by phone) with Budget Buddies Executive Director.
4. Formal Interest: Formal interest from the candidate to join the board confirmed by Board
chair or member of Governance Committee, including acceptance of responsibilities.
5. Board Vote: Board of Directors will vote on candidacy to elect the candidate.
6. Board Term: Begins when new member is voted in. Term ends at Annual meeting.
