The Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative (MA ECFC) will contribute to achieving its Vision by: 1. Creating a vehicle to strengthen the funder community and provide a forum to exchange knowledge and expertise; 2. Building awareness of the importance of Early Childhood and driving growth in Early Childhood philanthropy in Massachusetts; 3. Identifying gaps, levers, and strategic opportunities for coordinated investment; 4. Leveraging the Collaborative’s collective voice to influence policy and systems change; 5. Catalyzing cross-sector collaboration and alignment to advance a unified early childhood strategy in Massachusetts;  6. Identifying clear and common metrics to track and evaluate the Collaborative’s progress and inform process or strategy refinement.

Job Description:

The Director will report to the Co-Chairs of the MA ECFC Steering Committee.  The Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative (MA ECFC) is a new partnership effort working to ensure that all young children in Massachusetts have the opportunities and supports they need to thrive. This group of public and private foundation and individual funders has come together over the course of an extensive planning process to create this Collaborative, which will serve as a vehicle to strengthen the community of early childhood funders and to work towards policy and systems change by catalyzing a unified early childhood strategy.

Position Summary: The Director of the Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative will play a critical role in supporting the launch and implementation of this new Collaborative as its first staff person.The Director will work in close partnership with the Collaborative’s governing Steering Committee, Advisory Committee, and other Working Groups to establish this newly launched organization, through convenings, communications and implementation of identified programmatic and advocacy strategies.The Director will work to expand and manage the membership of the Collaborative and will represent its members with external stakeholders and partners. During the first two years, the Director will advance the Collaborative’s early goals of strengthening and expanding the early childhood funder community, working towards policy and systems change, and elevating efforts that will help transform Massachusetts into a place where all children thrive.At the end of the two-year startup phase, the Steering Committee and Director will review the progress made and adjust the priorities, roles, and focus of the MA ECFC as needed.                                  

Essential Functions:
  • Works closely with the Steering Committee and Advisory Committee to begin the work of the MA ECFC by implementing priority initiatives and monitoring the learning and evaluation of those
  • Supports the development and implementation of a diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda for the MA ECFC
  • Builds relationships and community with and among funder members of the MA ECFC
  • Supports and manages the recruitment of new funder members
  • Serves as key liaison to internal and external partners and stakeholders
  • Organizes, coordinates, and facilitates convenings and regular meetings of key committees, including the governing Steering Committee, Advisory Committee, and other membership planning and working committees 
  • Supports meeting coordination and logistics for Steering Committee, Advisory Committee meetings,
  • Organizes regular at large membership meetings
  • Monitors progress toward priority initiatives and develops regular reports, memos and summaries for the Steering Committee and membership
  • Develops and manages regular membership communications and outreach, including but not limited to the MA ECFC website, emails, and newsletters
  • Conducts as-needed analysis of key initiatives; conducts or gathers regular data, research, and analysis for special projects
  • Works with the Steering Committee to fundraise for operating and program costs
  • Manages Collaborative budgets and prepares budgets and grant reports 
  • Prepares written material as needed, including memos, research reports, background materials and correspondence, meeting summaries, etc.
  • Monitors ongoing developments in the field and makes recommendations to the Steering Committee for potential new areas of focus; and
  • Participates in other activities as needed




Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • 7 or more years of relevant working experience required, including experience working in collaboratives or coordinating multiple and diverse stakeholder
  • Experience working in early childhood is desirable
  • Experience in philanthropy/fundraising is a plus
