Search for the Program Director, Northeast Campaigns

The Energy Foundation seeks a strategic and collaborative campaigner to serve as its Program Director, Northeast Campaigns. Working in the Northeast Region to advance the national mission of Energy Foundation to secure a clean and equitable energy future to tackle the climate crisis, the Program Director, Northeast Campaigns will work with a talented team and stakeholders to devise strategy and drive inclusive campaigns with meaningful effect. The Program Director will partner with experts across Energy Foundation designing and funding strategies to meet policy goals across the power, buildings, transportation, and climate sectors.

Since its founding nearly 30 years ago as a 501(c)(3), Energy Foundation (EF) has supported grantees that help educate policymakers and the general public about the benefits of advances in energy efficiency and renewable energy across sectors. An intermediary foundation, EF is supported by a number of funders including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation. Over the years it has transitioned its grantmaking activities from a centralized system to local offices across the U.S. Grantees include business, health, environmental, labor, equity, community, faith, and consumer groups, as well as policy experts, think tanks, and universities. In 2019 alone, Energy Foundation awarded nearly $90M to 400 different groups through 700 separate grants and contracts.

The Program Director, Northeast Campaigns will guide the foundation’s strategies to build public support for clean energy and climate policies in the Northeast. Working in the region and in close partnership with campaign experts in Energy Foundation’s San Francisco office and other regional offices, the Campaign Director will design and fund strategies that create the diverse coalitions and collaborations needed to meet ambitious state policy goals in the power, buildings, transportation, and climate sectors. The Campaign Director will report to the Senior Regional Director and join the Northeast Regional team comprising the Program Coordinator, Program Associate, Policy Program Director, and Communications Director as part of the larger U.S. Programs Team.

The Program Director, Northeast Campaigns will be asked to:

  • Develop and oversee multi-year campaign strategies for the region with clear goals, planning, and evaluation;
  • Manage and guide teams and projects to successfully design and execute campaign strategies across the region;
  • Embrace and enhance Energy Foundation’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, incorporating and emphasizing it throughout the work;
  • Help build coalitions and collaborations across the region and internally, effectively moving work forward while attending to inclusivity; and
  • Manage the foundation’s investment in the Northeast Region to build public and policymaker support for clean energy and climate policy.
