Mission statement:

The 146 Federations and 300 Network Communities that collectively make up The Jewish Federations of North America have a long and enduring commitment to Israel and the needs of Jews around the world. Federations’ fundamental mission – to build thriving Jewish communities – relates both to local and continental concerns and to Jewish communities overseas and, of course, the Jewish state itself. Through this dual paradigm, Federations give meaning and expression to our core value that Kol Israel Aravim Ze L’Zeh – all Jews are responsible for one another.

The Federations know that local communities are strengthened and bolstered through meaningful connections with Israel and maintaining the broadest possible Jewish horizons. In today’s highly interconnected world, creating pathways for real engagement at every level that start early and can last a lifetime, strengthens Jewish identity, and infuses our North American community with pride and solidarity. They also know that what happens to a Jew in one place, impacts Jews everywhere, so that advocating for Israel and combatting global anti-Semitism are essential components of this work.

Jewish Federations’ proud history of collective work is based largely in the overseas arena – it is a cornerstone of our mission. Through shared investments and long-standing relationships with our global partner organizations, Federations’ reach extends to every corner of the Jewish world. From major initiatives which touch tens of thousands of people and create systemic change, to boutique operations which can deliver targeted aid to a single individual when and where it’s most needed, Federations power an extensive and flexible network and program delivery framework. Increasingly, these large-scale partnerships are being complemented by individual Federation efforts and smaller coalitions through which communities are having impact on issues of shared concern.

We aspire to nurture deep connections to Israel and global Jewry across our community. Working in partnership with lay and professional colleagues to provide a variety of portals to experience and engage with the Jewish world beyond our borders, our skilled professionals work directly with Federations and deploy our volunteer leadership network to identify and deliver accessible and meaningful opportunities to achieve this.
