Job Description:

The Institute is an innovative and nationally lauded organization that targets the reduction of violence and seeks to build Dr. King's vision of a beloved community.  We have crossed many borders to tackle violence; from Belfast to Chicago, from Cleveland to Oakland, from New York to New Orleans.  By creating unlikely partnerships between the community, law enforcement, employers and hospitals, we have tackled violence on the street, in our schools, in our homes and have brought the homicide rate down consistently over the past ten years.  We do this by utilizing nonviolence trainings, street outreach, employment services, victims' services, hospital response and enrichment activities.  The Institute is the only organization in the country to serve both victims and perpetrators of violent crime through our victims services department - we respond to all homicide victims families and living victims of violent crimes.

The Executive Director serves as the Institute's top employee, accountable for providing leadership, strategic direction and vision for the development and achievement of the Institute's mission in collaboration with its Board of Directors.

The Executive Director will possess solid and broad based management skills with a minimum of 5 or more years of comparable executive-level experience and progressive responsibility.  The successful Executive Director will show skill and accomplishments in areas including fundraising, strategic planning, community relations, board governance, communications, financial management, marketing, property management, and program delivery.  Demonstrated accomplishments in fostering community service are extremely important.
