Job Description:
The Moth seeks a highly motivated professional to lead our Education Program through its next level of engagement. This role will be responsible for the success of The Moth’s Education Program, setting strategy and vision along with the seamless management, development, program delivery, quality control and evaluation of every aspect of the Program.
Reports to: Managing Director of Programs
Overview of Responsibilities:
The Sr. Manager directly oversees The Moth’s Education Team, including full-time, part-time and freelance staff. Primary responsibilities involve six key areas:
Set the vision for The Moth’s Education Program and manage its team. You have the experience and skills to develop and implement a program vision and strategy, which aligns with the Moth’s mission and galvanizes your team.
Establish the Education Program as a thought leader in the storytelling space. You are driven to lead the conversation on the power of storytelling to transform classrooms and give young people voice.
Develop storytelling platforms for youth. You are relentless in the pursuit of giving young people the tools and space to develop their voice and tell their stories.
Expand professional development and curriculum resources for educators. You have deep empathy and appreciation for classroom teachers, and you endeavor to equip them with innovative tools to inspire their students.
Develop and retain instructor talent. You are keenly aware of the link between high quality instruction and high quality programming, and you collaborate across The Moth’s workshop programs to review, evaluate and hire talented instructors who reflect the diversity of the participants we serve.
Foster a community of storytellers by deepening and expanding the Program’s reach. You endeavor to be a champion of empathy, building authentic, lasting relationships to continuously grow the Education Program and the larger Moth audience.
Qualifications:
8+ years of experience working as a teacher, school administrator and/or in youth development; minimum of 2 of those years should include direct supervision of 2+ persons
Experience in curriculum design, instruction and training
Experience at creating and implementing strategic vision
Strong project management skills, including setting and measuring goals and KPIS
Adept at designing and revising budgets
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Deeply collaborative, valuing colleagues and clients alike
Some experience contributing to grant writing, fulfillment and reporting
Relishes working on teams: up, down and sideways
Ability to take initiative, keep a positive attitude and maintain a professional demeanor
