Springpoint is a national nonprofit organization that supports the design and launch of new, innovative public high schools. Our mission is to enable all students – regardless of environment or background – to succeed in high school, college, and beyond. We believe the job of high school is to ensure a high quality education for all students. And yet many high schools have failed to provide all young people with the education they deserve, instead contributing to the systems of oppression that limit opportunities for students from historically marginalized groups. We believe we must do high school differently, and since 2013 we have partnered with school districts, school networks, and charter management organizations around the country to rethink high school and develop innovative school models tailored to the needs, assets, and aspirations of their students.
In our collaborative work with school teams, we support our partners in their school’s design and continuous improvement journey by helping them to tap into visionary leadership in their community, to champion high expectations for all, and to focus resources on creating transformative learning experiences for students. Our supports are flexible, adaptive, and responsive to each partner’s unique context. We provide support both virtually and in person, and develop learning experiences, tools, and resources that are effective across key implementation phases.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Director, Leadership and School Development will lead the team that supports schools in their continuous improvement journeys and that further develops Springpoint’s vision for school and teacher leader professional learning and development. They will support partners in thinking broadly about student success, rooting their work in positive youth development, and focusing on key levers that maximize opportunities for students to thrive. The Director’s primary focus will be to use and refine Springpoint’s school observation process and tools in order to support partner organizations and schools in developing strategic action plans as they iterate on their school models. Additionally, the Director will lead the ideation and execution of adult learning and adult development experiences for teacher leaders, school leaders, school leadership teams and Springpoint consultants.

Candidate Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Engage, develop, and lead a consultant base of seasoned practitioners, including former principals and district administrators, through qualitative school observation visits to develop a deep understanding of school and leader strengths and areas for growth and generate a robust set of recommendations that will guide continued improvement
- Make and effectively communicate evidence-based recommendations to school partners based on trends synthesized from qualitative school observation visits;
- Develop school leaders and their leadership teams through high-quality adult learning experiences, including school study tours, webinars, in-person and virtual coaching, and other activities;
- Lead the creation, development, execution, and iteration of new initiatives focused on developing teachers as leaders, including creating foundational artifacts, planning documents, convenings, and leadership retreats;
- Generate ideas for and lead the development of new programmatic concepts and service offerings that both yield high-quality experiences for school and district leaders and drive organizational development
- Develop tools and codify resources to contribute to the institutional knowledge of the organization and the field more broadly;
- Collaborate with team members in the activities above and supervise a program manager;
- Oversee and significantly contribute to written program reports and relevant updates to partners, schools, and team; and
- Provide key leadership in issues related to secondary school pedagogy, youth development theory, innovative school design elements, and national educational reform initiatives generally.
A typical week might involve:
- developing a workshop for a group of school leaders that are coming together to discuss challenges and promising practices in remote learning,
- reviewing and providing feedback on a classroom walkthrough tool produced by the school visit manager,
- meeting with the executive director to brainstorm a new service offering to develop a pipeline of teacher leaders across a regional cohort of schools,
- facilitating an internal working group to crosswalk feedback from multiple sources to iterate a school improvement rubric, and
- leading a team of seasoned practitioners in conducting a school observation visit.
Preference given to an individual based in the New York City area but will consider other candidates. Once national travel resumes, general travel is around 15% and seasonal travel peaks in the fall and spring at as much as 40%.

- You’re a relationship builder who thrives off of meaningful human connection—with school leaders and teachers, home office and remote colleagues, consultants, and instructional coaches—and you leverage relationships to achieve common goals and work toward shared successes.
Candidate Experience and Knowledge:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Education Leadership, Public Administration or a related field;
- Minimum of five years of school and/or school district leadership experience developing and managing staff, new initiatives, and budgets with demonstrated responsibility for program outcomes at the secondary education level;
- Deep instructional and pedagogical knowledge; and
- Track record of success working with school principals and/or teacher leaders in either a support or supervisory capacity to improve achievement for all students.
