Mission statement:

The Lunar Doula Collective seeks to provide emotional, physical, and informational support free of charge to those undergoing miscarriage, stillbirth, or pregnancy termination in Southeast Michigan. LDC strives to honor the reproductive justice framework by creating a nonjudgmental space in which sexual and reproductive health equity is essential for all human beings regardless of sexual, racial, and gender identities.

Job Description:

LDC is seeking dedicated individuals for our working board to help this young nonprofit organization further its mission of providing compassionate support to those experiencing pregnancy loss and termination procedures throughout southeast Michigan. General responsibilities of a board member include: 

  • Advocating for the mission of LDC and working to promote current and future LDC programs related to pregnancy termination and pregnancy loss support

  • Promoting LDC within the community to develop partnerships and gain funding

  • Communicating with a variety of diverse stakeholders to discuss LDC’s goals, mission, and to identify gaps in care/support

  • Using stakeholder/member/client feedback to inform improvement or implementation of LDC support programs 

  • Performing other duties as assigned by Board President or Executive Director

Length of Term: 

Board Members will serve for a two-year term from the effective date 


Time Commitment Requirement:

LDC’s current status as a newly-formed organization requires a working board committed to helping grow the organization. As such, board members will be asked to commit 10-15 hours monthly to their board duties, including monthly board meetings with an average of 2 hours per meeting, and will be available for calls with the Executive Director for a minimum of 1 hour per month. 


Qualifications:

LDC Board Members must demonstrate passion for and commitment to LDC’s goals of promoting the Reproductive Justice Framework. Due to LDC’s work to support communities throughout southeast Michigan, a candidate with connections to Michigan is ideal. Dedicated candidates with experience in business, government, philanthropy, social action and/or nonprofit organization and development are preferred. An ideal Board Member Candidate will have the following qualifications: 

  • A commitment to and understanding of LDC’s programs, services, and goals

  • A passionate advocate for bodily autonomy and reproductive rights of all individuals, with knowledge of social and emotional needs of those experiencing pregnancy loss, including an understanding of and commitment to addressing barriers and health disparities that exist for those seeking reproductive health resources

  • Able to promote LDC programs through developing strong and sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders, raising public and private funds as needed

  • Dynamic and versatile, able to engage a variety of stakeholders in dialogue and speak in a clear, compelling, and authentic manner about LDC’s goals and priorities
