Charity vs. philanthropy: Pierre Omidyar says philanthropists must do both
To Pierre Omidyar, charity means alleviating the suffering of today—knowing it will still need to be alleviated tomorrow. Meanwhile, philanthropy aims to eliminate the causes of suffering. “We have to be focused on both,” he says.
