BOSTON, MA—May 23, 2003—The Bridgespan Group today announced the appointment of Dan Cardinali, former president and CEO of Independent Sector, to its Board of Trustees.

At Independent Sector—the leading coalition of US nonprofits, foundations, and corporations dedicated to strengthening civil society—Cardinali collaborated with individuals and organizations to support nonprofits during COVID-19. Cardinali previously led Communities In Schools, a national organization dedicated to helping students realize their full potential. During his tenure at Communities In Schools, he collaborated with practitioners, researchers and evaluators to conceive and scale an evidence-based program that helps mitigate the effects of poverty on academic performance for millions of K-12 students. Additionally, Cardinali serves on the boards of the Fetzer Institute, Child Trends, Project Evident, and Sojourners.

William Foster, Bridgespan’s managing partner, said, “We are truly fortunate to have Dan joining Bridgespan’s board. His commitment to service—across public education, social change, the nonprofit sector, and social justice—is clear. His knowledge of policy as it affects our sector is unsurpassed. He is a deep moral thinker and a time where depth and thoughtfulness are more important than ever. We look forward to drawing on and learning from him and drawing on his talents.”

According to Cardinali: “I have had numerous occasions to work with Bridgepsan leaders at both CIS and IS and I have always been impressed and energized by our interactions. As a social entrepreneur who is passionate about creating a world where both people and the natural world can thrive, I couldn’t be more excited about joining The Bridgespan Group’s board. I’m eager to support Bridgespan’s important work across the social sector.”
