Anna-Maria Mbwette
Partner, JohannesburgAnna-Maria Mbwette is a partner in Bridgespan’s Africa office where she also serves as the people partner. Through her work, she has served nonprofits in the early childhood education and health sectors; philanthropists, particularly family office and foundations with interest in climate and funder models; and impact investors such as AfricInvest. Her work spans strategy development, operating model design, funder models, and quantification of impact. She has also pioneered new thought leadership on how philanthropists can collaborate with development funders in Africa to transform and scale impact.
Prior to joining Bridgespan in 2024, Anna-Maria spent nearly a decade in the strategy advisory and investment space in East Africa. She was a country lead for trade and investment at the British High Commission in Tanzania, working closely with government and principal funders, such as British International Investment. She was also the lead for clean energy sector and trade policy areas. Previously, she worked for Monitor Deloitte as a corporate strategy and project management practitioner, particularly supporting private sector, governments, multilateral and bilateral institutions, and donor foundations in the East Africa region.
Anna-Maria earned an MBA from IESE Business School with a focus on investment and social entrepreneurship and a BA in economics and international relations from Stanford University. She is primarily based in Dar-es-Salaam Tanzania where she is helping advance Bridgespan's footprint in East Africa.
