Kara Shurmantine

Kara Shurmantine is a senior manager in Bridgespan's San Francisco office. Since joining Bridgespan in 2026, she has worked with philanthropic funders and nonprofits on strategy across education, economic mobility, and place-based change.

Prior to Bridgespan, Kara spent six years at Bain & Company in San Francisco, where she supported both for-profit and nonprofit clients on growth strategy and organizational effectiveness. Her nonprofit work at Bain included supporting a CEO transition at a climate resilience organization and an operating model redesign for a global conservation NGO. Before Bain, Kara worked at MassChallenge, a nonprofit startup accelerator, where she led international expansion and managed partnerships with corporations, foundations, universities, and government agencies.

Kara holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and a BA in English & American Literatures and Spanish, summa cum laude, from Middlebury College. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and daughter and enjoys hiking and birdwatching around the Bay Area.
